This week in reading we have been talking about building structures like boats, houses, and bridges. The students paired up today to compare their ideas about how to build a bridge. Then with limited supplies and time they worked together to build a bridge. Their bridges were tested to see if a car could make it from one side to the other with just a push. I was very impressed with how well they worked together and how many adjustments they made after many trials and errors. There are a couple of other events that I wanted to make you aware of next week. Mrs. Myogeto has a student who completed a 9 week Genius Hour project on how to help Anna Marie's House. She researched the program, why women and children go there and how we can help them. She reached out to them and found out they are in need of the following items: pillow cases, baby bottles, lotion, wash towels, nail polish, robes, diapers, toiletries (deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste) , hair brushes, and detergent. She created a box and will set it outside of her classroom door if anyone is able to donate.

Hello!
*This week we will have our spelling test and Speak-up on Friday. *The spelling patterns that we are working on this week in reading are very difficult (er, ir, ur, or...all making the sounds "er" as in her) On the back of the worksheets this week are words and sentences for fluency practice. Please take some extra time to read these and give the spelling words extra practice. *For the next two weeks, we will be working on geometry in math. We will talk about 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional shapes. Please have your child bring in a few objects that can be left in our "Shapes Museum" for several days. The objects should not be valuable or breakable. Here are a few ideas....something that has a triangle, circle, or a square in it. *Please check out the "Photos" tab tomorrow for a few pictures of the kids reading to Frankie the French Bulldog. Frankie is a therapy dog that visits the Albany Public Library and you can sign up to read to him there. *Please continue to send snow pants and boots with your child even as the snow begins to melt next week. The playground will be very muddy when things start to thaw. I also suggested to the kids that they have a pair of extra mittens/gloves and socks with to change into if needed. Thanks! |
