This week we have been reading a variety of books with the same story line as The Three Little Pigs. We talked about the characters, settings, and events in these stories. We compared them to each other. Another topic of discussion were the shelters that each of them made. We talked about why some were better than others to withstand the enemy in the story. Today each group of students were given the same supplies with the directions to make a strong shelter that can stand up to the big bad wolf trying to blow it down (my hairdryer). They had one hour to complete their shelter. "I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blow your house down!" All of the houses stayed standing on the low setting and everyone that dared the high setting withstood the blowdryer as well! We all agreed that this was a fun project!

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving! Hopefully with the long break everyone will come back rested and healthy.
This week in reading we will be working on the last of the short vowels. After this week we will be introducing ending and beginning blends, long vowels, and vowel patterns. Please continue to practice spelling words, sight words, and sentence reading on the sheet that comes home on Mondays. Also continue rereading the paper books that are sent home. In math we will soon be including a dime into our nickel and penny counting. Challenge your child by having them count a handful of coin combinations and then trade for fewer or fewest coins. We finished our habitats unit in science. I hope your child shared their habitat project with you a couple of weeks ago. They also used an app on the ipads called SeeSaw to take a picture of their project and record themselves telling about it. |
