Next week for Speak Up the students need to bring in a baby picture of themselves. It would be fun to display them all week and have the students guess who's who. Please help your child choose a baby picture and send it with them on Monday, April 1.
Mrs. Schultz made the announcement yesterday that if students would like to play off of the tar at recess, they need to wear their boots. In math we are learning the value of a quarter and counting money using quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies. This would be great practice at home also. First grade math standards do not include quarters, so this is just introductory for 2nd grade. In reading we are continuing on with vowel patterns. This week was the two different sounds of "y" at the end of a word. Next week will be the "ar" chunk. Please continue to reread the paper books that come home each week. If students get a parents signature for reading it and show me, they get a to pick a sticker. Next month in science we will begin our unit on living and nonliving. It is fun to get outside and observe this in nature. We have two weeks left of Junior Achievement. Lynn Brutger and Wyatt Kemper, from the credit union, have been teaching the students about wants and needs. Next they will teach them about being an entrepreneur. The students will get to make up their own business. They have enjoyed learning about what makes a good community.
