Our first graders have made a lot of progress already and are adjusting to their new schedule. Please continue to practice letter sounds and sight words. Next week there will be a whole packet for your child to practice. You can choose to do a different page each day, or the same one until they can read it easily. You may need more than one week to complete this packet. In math we are working on tally marks, counting by 5’s and 2’s, and number writing.
A conference sign up sheet came home in your child’s backpack yesterday. Please select several days and hours that work for you. We will need these back by Tuesday, September 25. Remember to sign up for 100 mile club by tomorrow, Friday Sept 7. Walking starts on Monday, Sept. 10th. Students can walk from 7:30-8AM on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. They can walk/run as much as they'd like and can go to breakfast at 7:45am. There are 2 staff members available, they will let students know when they can go to breakfast.
Look for black and white paper "Readers" to collect each week. There is one coming home today titled, “I Like To.” Students in the past like to save them in a shoebox, at home, to reread for extra practice. If your child reads their book to you, please sign it and return it to school for me to see. They can collect one sticker for every book read. The book will be sent home after I have starred your signature to show the sticker was received. School pictures are scheduled for Thursday, September 13. The envelopes are coming home today with directions on ordering. Everyone will get their picture taken for the yearbook regardless of whether you order or not. Thank you for all your support! *The first day of school was so much fun! I bet everyone will be tired tonight. The kids were troopers.
*Website: http://albanyfirstgrade.weebly.com This year I will be sending updates through my blogpost on my website. I will email you a link to the website each time I post an update. Check out my website! *Please check your child's purple Huskie take home folder daily for important information. If you need to send a note to school, please put it in this folder as I check them each morning. Please remind your child to bring this folder back and forth daily. *If your child has a change in his/her regular afternoon routine, please send a note or call the office. If you email, please email a couple of days in advance because I often don’t get to my email until after the school day is over. *Please note that we will not have snack time this year due to our lunch time. Free breakfast is available everyday starting at 7:50AM and ending at 8:10. *Every Friday is school spirit day! Dress in ‘Albany Huskies' clothes or purple & white. *Albany Elementary has a recycling program called Trash 2 Cash.
