I hope your new year is off to a good start. We are getting back into the swing of things here at school. Next week we are reviewing our Pawsitive Pride rules in all parts of the building. Our Husky House is full of Pawsitive Pride slips so we will be sledding on Wednesday, January 22 as our reward. Please be sure your child has all of their outside clothing to enjoy our special time outside. The yearbook staff wanted us to remind you to order a yearbook soon if you haven't yet since the deadline is soon approaching. Please check out the new pictures added to the picture tab above. Stay warm!!

Please continue to work with your child over the break: *Tying shoes independently *Memorizing their address & phone number/s *Reading *Math-math facts & counting coins (Penny, Nickel and Dime) *Spelling *Outdoor play activities Please be sure to label all of your child's winter clothing. This helps when things get misplaced. Thanks! Have a Wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year! Today your child is bringing home a set of paper dominoes. Please encourage them to play Domino Top It with someone. Each person picks up a domino and adds the two sides together. The person with the higher sum takes both dominoes. This is a great way to practice math facts. After several times they should be able to recognize dot patterns and know how many without counting and also remember some math facts without counting or adding on. Continue to have you child reread any paper readers that come home. They include sight words we are practicing and letter patterns. I have seen wonderful progress from each student already this year. Thank you for your support at home!
I am thankful for 24 smiling faces in my classroom.
I am thankful for supportive families. I am thankful for a place I love to work in everyday. I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving! Here are some updates for the coming days: *No School Wednesday, Thursday, & Friday. *Winter gear: Please label your child's snow pants and any other gear that's possible. It's also appreciated if your child has an extra pair of gloves and a hat in their bag or locker. *Telling Time: We are currently working on telling time to the hour and will begin telling time to the half hour soon. For time on the half hour, we say "half past six", etc. most often, but also introduce "Six thirty". Digital time will be introduced much later in the year. I will send home a paper clock for practice at home. No need to return it. *Short Vowels: Continue reading the books and reading sheets that come home containing the short vowels we are working on as well as the new sight words. *Habitats: We are learning about habitats. The students are creating one habitat for three animals making sure everything those animals need are included in their habitat. We will finish next week, so look for these to come home. Stay warm! School pictures are coming home today in your child's backpack. Picture retake day is Wednesday, October 30.
Your child has started to practice math facts at school on a site called Moby Max. They start with addition and then move at their own pace to subtraction and then even multiplication and division. A letter was sent home on Tuesday explaining how you can add this to an ipad or computer for your child to practice at home using their login and password. At school we have only used the math facts area, but there are many more options in math, reading, science, etc. I hope you find time to check it out. We had a great time learning about the life of a veterinarian. The students were able to listen to the heartbeat of a cat and dog, look through the microscope, and identify animals being xrayed. Check out our pictures at the vet clinic under the home tab above. Today we did pumpkin explorations. It was a lot of fun measuring, weighing, and counting! Check out the pictures under the home tab above. Just a reminder that your child can bring their halloween costume to school in a bag. They will put it on in the afternoon before our party and then bring it back home again in their backpack. Have a great last week of October and Happy Halloween! *No spelling or Speak-up this week.

We will take spelling tests on Fridays unless otherwise noted. We spent a lot of time the first few days of school going over rules and routines. It is nice to now start new activities and learning.
*Just a reminder that we do not serve birthday treats at school anymore. If your child has a favorite book they would like me to read to the class, please send it to school on their birthday. *Starting next week your child will bring home paper books with our new or review sight words in them. If they read the book to you, please sign it and return it back to school so they can get a sticker for it. I will send the book back home after they get their sticker. It would be a great idea to store these books in a box at home and reread them many times. *Albany Elementary has a recycling program called Trash 2 Cash. Students are encouraged to bring in the following items to promote recycling and raise money for their school!
