We had a wonderful day at Sibley State Park. While we were there we went ponding, hiking, and learned about animal habitats. One of our favorites was hiking up Mt. Tom. We could see for miles! Below are a few pictures from our field trip. There are more under the pictures tab above.

It is hard to believe we have started the last month of school! We have three field trips planned. Each day please have your child wear tennis shoes and dress in layers for being outside.
May 10 field trip to Sibley State Park *The park employees advised us to wear long pants or shorts with long socks of light colors because of woodticks. * Remember to pack your child a cold lunch if you chose this option. May 17 field trip to Albany Central Minnesota Credit Union May 22 field trip to Hemker Zoo Happy Snowy Day!
Students have a reading sheet to complete at home today for homework. We are working on geometry in math. We will talk about 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional shapes. Please have your child bring in a few objects that can be left in our "Shapes Museum" for several days. The objects should not be valuable or breakable. Here are a few ideas....something that has a triangle, circle, or a square in it. Today may be a great day to gather some shapes around the house. Be sure to label any object you want returned. Thank you! April has started out being a very typical spring, but it sounds like we may be in for some surprise weather later this week. Here at school we are continuing reading, counting money including quarters, and telling time to five minute intervals.
*We want to thank Lynn Brutger and Sarah Klemmer from the Albany credit union for volunteering to teach our students the Junior Achievement curriculum about wants and needs. They have done a wonderful job! We are excited to go on a field trip to their workplace later in May. *Pajama day is scheduled for Wednesday, April 10. This a reward from their music teacher, Mr. Resley, for good behavior. *Reminder that there will be no school on Friday, April 19. *This week's spelling words are very difficult due to the many spellings of the sound "er." Please encourage your child to write them several times each day to memorize these words. Next week for Speak Up the students need to bring in a baby picture of themselves. It would be fun to display them all week and have the students guess who's who. Please help your child choose a baby picture and send it with them on Monday, April 1.
Mrs. Schultz made the announcement yesterday that if students would like to play off of the tar at recess, they need to wear their boots. In math we are learning the value of a quarter and counting money using quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies. This would be great practice at home also. First grade math standards do not include quarters, so this is just introductory for 2nd grade. In reading we are continuing on with vowel patterns. This week was the two different sounds of "y" at the end of a word. Next week will be the "ar" chunk. Please continue to reread the paper books that come home each week. If students get a parents signature for reading it and show me, they get a to pick a sticker. Next month in science we will begin our unit on living and nonliving. It is fun to get outside and observe this in nature. We have two weeks left of Junior Achievement. Lynn Brutger and Wyatt Kemper, from the credit union, have been teaching the students about wants and needs. Next they will teach them about being an entrepreneur. The students will get to make up their own business. They have enjoyed learning about what makes a good community. In Celebration of Dr. Seuss’s birthday, dress in the following way each day the week of
